"As far back as I can remember, I've always wanted to be a gangster."
Plot
Henry Hill (Ray Liotta) is a local boy turned gangster in one of the roughest and toughest neighbourhood's in 1970's New York. He takes part in a robbery with real time gangster Tommy De Vito (Joe Pesci) and slick Jimmy Conway (Robert De Niro). The partners kill off everyone else involved in the robbery and all three men slowly begin to climb up through the hierarchy of the Mob. Henry Hill goes from strapping young petty criminal, to big time theif, to middle-aged cocaine addict and dealer, all while watching the rise and fall of his two counterparts.
Why is this one of my favourite movies?
Goodfellas is based on the true story of Henry Hill born in Brooklyn, New York 1943. It's always cool to know that what you just saw is someone's real life. With any book or movie, a true story always has more of a profound affect on the audience or reader versus a fictional story. The story of Henry Hill is an amazing tale of the rise and fall of real gangster, with an inspirational ending.
